Fellow VT CFA Society Members:
On behalf of your Board of Directors, I wanted to give you a brief update on how the Vermont CFA Society is striving to meet our mission, and to solicit both your feedback and assistance in helping us move forward.
Our mission is to maintain a strong local society that serves its members’ needs for high quality continuing professional education, rewarding career development and networking opportunities.
Our primary means of achieving our mission is to provide meaningful educational and networking programs periodically. While this past year has been a challenging one in the markets, our dinner programs have provided our members with insight and ideas to help them navigate turbulent times, and the chance to connect with friends over good food and drink.
Another way we reach out to our community is to help emerging professionals understand how the CFA designation can play a pivotal role in advancing their career through “CFA Day” career events at select Vermont universities. Additionally, we sponsored a student team at UVM, enabling them to compete in the New England Investment Research Challenge, a prestigious event hosted by the Boston Society.
Most recently, we undertook an effort to support a stock market investment challenge through the Vermont Council on Economic Education. This wonderful program seeks to educate elementary and middle school children about the importance of both saving and investing, and serves as a way for each of us to help bring along the next generation. If this strikes a chord with you, we are actively seeking volunteers to help us educate children about stocks and bonds, and a perspective about how these whacky markets function. Please let me know if you can help for a few hours sometime this Spring.
In closing, we are appreciative of your support and commitment to both the CFA Institute and to your local society. We strive to serve your needs and appreciate any ideas or feedback you might have. And yes, we are always looking for your help. Please raise your hand or drop us a line.
Thanks again for your support,
David W. Richardson, CFA
President
