"Our mission is to develop Sri Lanka's capital market by promoting a high level of ethics and standards of professional conduct among our members. We will strive to increase public understanding of the capital market, its risks and rewards as well as the role of the investment professional."
Sri Lanka, notwithstanding its internal political conflicts is a country that has been identified as rich in its potential for growth and development in its capital market. All economic and social indicators seem to point towards this fact. Explosive growth has been seen in many areas: on the economic side, direct foreign participation in business; and on the social side, liberalisation and rapid expansion in the media and communications fields.
The steady level of economic activity has necessitated the parallel development of Sri Lanka’s capital market. However, this has been effected with no centralised professional expertise being deployed in an advisory or regulatory capacity. The end result was that the investors are left with very poor standard of service.
Our purpose is to fulfil this need for professional and regulatory expertise, and to create a multitude of opportunities for academic and professional development among securities and investment professionals. In doing so we anticipate the development of Sri Lanka into a Financial Centre for the South East Asia region, and ushers in a new era for professionals in the capital market of Sri Lanka. |
