CFA Day was celebrated worldwide during the week of June 11, 2007. CFA Institute and its 90,000 members from 130 countries recognized the founding of the investment profession with a variety of events. CFA Institute marked the day with the London, New York, and Toronto Stock Exchanges being opened by CFA Institute members, volunteers, and other industry leaders.
CFA Association of Pakistan also arranged for a number of events in connection to the CFA Day. The celebrations were kicked off by sending 60th anniversary mementos to CFAAP members.
1. A press supplement was published in the Daily Dawn featuring messages from the Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Shaukat Aziz, SECP Chairman, Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Mr. Jeffrey Diermeier, CFA, CEO CFA Institute, Mr. Khalid Ghayur, CFA and Mohammad Shoaib, President CFAAP. The supplement also carried useful articles about the history, mission and objectives of CFA Institute and the activities and initiatives of the CFA Association of Pakistan.
2. A Panel Discussion on the ‘Future of the Investment Management Profession’ was held on June 12, 2007 at The Sheraton Hotel, Karachi. CEO’s of the top Asset Management Companies of Pakistan took part in the discussion. The Chief Guest at the occasion was Mr. Razi-ur-Rahman Khan, Chairman Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.
The discussion was moderated by Farrukh Sabzwari, CEO, KASB Securities Ltd. Panelists were Faisal Bengali, CEO, AKD Investment Management Ltd., Tariq Iqbal Khan, CEO, National Investment Trust Ltd., Farid Ahmed Khan, CFA, CEO, MCB Asset Management Ltd. and Ali Azam Shirazee, CEO, IGI Funds Ltd. The discussion highlighted all the major issues faced by the investment community including the implication of the current budget on the investment industry, need for investor education, human resource issues and a need for the introduction of code of conducts for asset managers as well as brokers.
3. In a befitting close to the CFA anniversary celebrations, CFAAP hosted a memorable Evening Reception for all CFAAP members and head of HR and CEO of financial institutions along with their spouses. The guests were entertained by the ever so popular ‘Loose Talk’ duo, followed by dinner. Later on the guests was further enthralled with the performance by one of the leading musical bands of Pakistan, The Strings.
